I rode the Incredicoaster at Disneyland

It was finally our turn to go! We had been waiting an hour just for this roller coaster, and I was bored out of my skull. I was here with my family in Disneyland, and this was only our first ride! It was called the Incredicoaster, and was a long train, with seats for two.

We finally got to the front of the line, so I hopped in, and my grandma got in beside me. My family and cousins were here too, so we took up the whole space. I was terrified of the Incredicoaster, but there was no turning back now. . .

During the Ride

The ride started fast, and it hurled us along the track, into the giant tunnel infront of us. As we rushed inside, the huge gust of wind blew into my face, making my cheeks flap. I was blinded by the strong wind for that one second. As soon as I could see again, I saw that little animated incredible characters were on the ceilings of the tunnel. Like Helen (the mom) was trying to feed the baby, but he threw-up purple goo all over the place! Right when the ride pushed us forward so fast, my head almost bumped with the lap bar infront of me. When it did that, the train twisted to the right and weaved in and out of tunnels with the animated characters from Incredibles projecting the walls doing all sorts of things.

But this was where the twist came. As we were distracted by characters, we didn’t know that the ride was accelerating us high into the sky. We didn’t know that until . . . BOOM! The ride pushed down, my stomach flipped, I screamed as loud as I could. We were getting closer and closer to the ground, to our doom. But it didn’t happen.

“Look!” my grandma pointed ahead of us and I followed her finger. “OMG, OMG, OMG!” I cried. Up ahead was . . .

How I scored my first soccer goal

How I scored my first soccer goal. . .

It was only the third quarter and we were losing 3-0. Catalina, one of my teammates, was dribbling the ball up to the other team’s goal, and I sprinted beside her. We were both on offense, and were the fastest runners on our team. Their defense couldn’t keep up with us.

We were getting closer and closer to the goal, but then. . . BAM!

how i scored my first soccer goal

One girl from the other team rammed right into Catalina, and the ball rolled its way over to me. But I didn’t stop to ask if she was okay, instead, I bolted, keeping the ball infront of me and my eyes up ahead.

The goal was only a few yards away now, and I dribbled the ball to the right side, my aim on the left, and kicked as hard as I could.

After that, everything seemed to have happened in slow motion. Everyone was hushed, as they watched in suspense.

The goalie stooped down low, but it was too late; The ball slipped past her hands and zoomed into the net. Cheers exploded from all around the field and my whole team rushed over to me. High-fives, and back slaps were flying around, with an excited atmosphere in the air.

This is how I scored my first soccer goal, and it was also the first goal for the team. I was proud of myself, and my team’s mood lifted, allowing us to feel more confident and score a few more goals before the end of the game.

This proved that all people needed was a little motivation to do better at something. . .

My First Soccer Game during Covid

my first soccer game during covid

It was a cold morning, the day of my first soccer game during Covid. We had so much to do, shop for the right soccer shoes, and practice before the game. If I was going to be honest, I was nervous. I hadn’t played soccer in so long, would I be able to play just as good as used to?

First things first, shoe shopping at the sporting goods store. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. They didn’t have any turf shoes for girls, or boys for that matter. So we decided to look for sneakers, because they were allowed. It took forever, but we finally did find some, and they looked amazing!

The Game

It turns out, we didn’t have enough time to practice before the game. But luckily, the coaches helped us to warm up first with some sprints and dribbling. I was already out of breath by the time we finished.

That’s when the referee blew his whistle and everyone went to their position on the field. I was mid-field, because I liked being both offense and defense. The game started with a kick-off from my team.

“Push up everyone! Push up!” Are coach yelled at us from the sidelines.

The ball came to me many times, but I made the mistake of passing it to my teammates instead of dribbling it. You could definitely say I was a little rusty. The girl from the other team suddenly rushed past me with the ball, and I bolted after her, trying to steal the ball away. But she was too quick, and our defense was no match for her. We all watched as she kicked the ball, and it flew past our goalie, straight into the net.

Cheers erupted from the other side of the field, and I shook my head in denial. ‘How could I have let that happen?’ I tried to concentrate on the game and put all those thoughts in the back of my head. But my heart wasn’t in it, and the other team scored a few other goals. It went on like this until the referee blew the whistle three times, indicating the game was over.

I knew I hadn’t given my best, and that was something I wanted to work on in the future, as well as not giving up. Now I was determined to do better the next game. Would I be able to? . . .

Going to School In-person During Covid Part 2

I couldn’t wait to go to school in-person again, because last time was exhilarating! I have to say, waking up and adjusting to the new schedule was definitely the hard part about hybrid learning. And Covid was something that used to make me think that I would never get to experience middle school in-person, but I was wrong; It all worked out eventually.

Early in the morning, I woke by feeling the cool air outside and the sunlight shining through the window. I quickly got out of bed and went downstairs to take a shower and get ready. Breakfast was bagels with cream cheese and onions on top. My favorite!

That Day

I didn’t have the QR code on my phone today, so the lady at the gate checked my temperature and let me go in. We had to wait in line for 15 minutes before they let us in the school, and it was exhausting! When we finally got in, Ms. Johnson was wait outside the door for us, and a rush of warm air met my face when I stepped through the doorway.

Today we were going to write an I Am Poem. It was so fun, because every time we wrote a sentence, someone shared out to the class. Ms. Johnson would throw a beach ball to someone who would read their poem and pass it to a different person. I had the worst throw because I was right next to the opened door letting in a draft, but that was okay. People were trying to throw it to the furthest person, and chaos erupted!

Soon, everyone was laughing and having fun, and that was when we heard the bell ring, indicating it was snack time. The same groups of people divided, and I stood next to Elle. Snack was exactly the same, and nothing interesting really happened during it. Ms. Johnson was allowing us to bring tennis balls to play with at snack, and the mood was fun and cheerful.

Recess and Tutorial

Once again, tutorial was next, and I practiced my left-hand drawing this time. I was getting pretty good at it, and the pencil felt comfortable in my hand.

Suddenly, the bell rang, which meant it was time to go home. On the way out, I thanked Ms. Johnson, and accepted the lunch that was being offered outside the gates. It was chicken teriyaki!

This day was surprisingly better than the first, but it wasn’t perfect because everyone was still adjusting. Distance learning has taught me that you should have patience, because everything will work out, even though it might not be exactly what you wanted, and as soon as you had hoped for.

Going to School In-person During Covid

The night before the big day, I’m not gonna lie, I was kind of dreading the thought of school. Going to school in-person during Covid was one thing I never thought would happen, and I was having mixed feelings. Who would have guessed I was going to have my first day of sixth grade in the middle of March?

middle school

Picking an outfit was easy, especially when I asked for help from by best friend, Elle. She was the fashion guru, and always had the best sense of style. Together, we decided on a red sweatshirt with Levi’s, a pair of adidas, and some cute earrings as accessories.

My class was divided into two cohorts based on each person’s last name and their class periods. My cohort (cohort B) going to school in person for period 1, which was a relief because it included my favorite teacher and subject- language arts with Ms. Johnson! But, Elle was the only friend I had in my cohort, and the mixed feelings started up again.

The Big Day

Grogginess and exhaustion were just some the things I was feeling when I woke up that day early in the morning. It was stressful running around the house trying to get ready on time, but I did it in the end. In fact, I was actually the first person to stand in the line in front of the gates to the school. They let us in at exactly 7:55, and we made our way to our classrooms.

Seeing Ms. Johnson for the first time was nothing like I had expected. First of all, she was tallest person I have ever met, and she already knew almost all of our names! The best part? Elle and I were sitting right next (okay maybe 6ft apart) to each other! That day was a blast, with activities like fun icebreakers, to lessons on growing your brain.

At snack break, a group of boys from my class huddled together and starting talking about Fortnite. Joining them was tempting, but I knew that talking about a video game 24/7 was annoying to most people. So instead, I listened close while talking to Elle at the same time.

Next was tutorial, the time students got to work on their homework, retake assessments, or simply chill out. I practiced my left-hand writing, because I wanted to be ambidextrous (I also heard left-handed people are more creative, but let’s go with the other one).

After class ended, it was dismissal time, and we even got free lunch to take with us! The school day ended up being much better than I though it would be, and I was glad I took the hybrid learning. Now I couldn’t wait for next week to go back to school again!

Beach

Beach Day, A Narrative Written By Me

I woke up earlier than usual, excited for the day ahead. My dad had promised a beach day today on Saturday, and after the coronavirus going around, I thought this day would never come! Things got even better when my parents allowed me to pick a friend. Of course I chose my best friend Elle! We quickly got ready, packed our things, and drove over to her house. We looked amazing in our beach wear!

At the Beach

When we arrived, the first thing we did was dash over to the beautiful beach water and dive in. It was freezing cold, but definitely worth it! Swimming farther away from the shore, we waded our way towards the front. But what we didn’t realize was that there was too much seaweed blocking our paths, and we stumbled right over them. I struggled to untangle my leg, but just as I did, a huge wave came toppling over us, my face drowning under the freezing water. I finally managed to untangle my leg, and swam back to shore, choking out the water from my throat. My legs felt numb, and I looked around in search of Elle. My parents appeared, and I called out for my friend. Where was she?

That’s when I saw her, way out in the water, shouting for help. Panic crept inside my mind, and for a second, I thought she was going to drown; But I couldn’t let that happen, so I dove in the water once again and swam over to Elle. But she had already made her way to the shore, and I saw my dad leaping in and grabbing her hand just in time before the enormous wave came crashing down. Elle was okay, but I was still in the water. Ducking underneath the wave, I closed my eyes and mouth shut, waiting for the wave to pass over me, as I tried to swim back to shore.

I finally did, emerging from the beach to see my family laughing. So I giggled too, despite my legs being sore from crashing into the hard sand below me. I wanted to do it again, but Elle was ready to take a break. It was dangerous what had almost happened to her, so I agreed. We raced each other to our stuff, and spread out our towels on the sandy beach. Laying down under the sun, the warm glow helped us to relax, and forget about the incident in the water.

We ate some sweet tea biscuits and drank a lot of water. After that, I talked to my mother and made a plan to invite Elle over to my house after freshening up. So we all agreed. After dropping her off, we went home and took turns taking a shower. About 10 minutes later, Elle arrived at my house.

“Hey, come on in!” I welcomed her with a smile.

She smiled back and we hugged each other before she stepped inside. We had so much fun together, and I even taught her how to play Fortnite! It was the best Saturday of my life during Covid so far, but also the scariest.
